Article Abstract:
Research suggests that transcripts encoding neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunits are expressed by neural crest-derived cells of quail early in development. The expression may be an intrinsic property of some peripheral neurons derived from the neural crest. RT-PCR was used to analyze the timing of the appearance of transcripts encoding nAChR subunits. NAPA 73 immunoreactivity appeared during neural crest cell migration, suggesting that neuronal characteristics are expressed by some cells early in development. Development of functional nAChRs does not depend on innervation or growth medium composition.

Article Abstract:
Immunoselection of neuronal precursors from the gut revealed that development of enteric neurons is dependent on microenvironmental factors rather than structural relations. Neurons and glia as well as catecholaminergic neurons were detected in the cells cultured on laminin. These results suggest that laminin plays an important role in the development of enteric glia and that the gut's enteric microenvironment hinders the formation of catecholaminergic neurons.

Article Abstract:
The orientation and growth of the neuronal axons is controlled by central nervous system (CNS) neurons during development in the leech embryos. The removal of the CNS ganglia before the differentiation of the extrasensillar neurons causes the formation of circular fasciculated structures by the disoriented growth of the afferent sensory neuron axons. The sensillar neurons form circular ring of axons in the nephridia pore complex.
