Article Abstract:
Evolutionary genetics of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) have been investigated in the peacock butterfly (Inachis io) using two pupal and two adult traits. Clear differences were seen in trait sizes between sexes and between laboratory- and field-raised families but no difference in FA were seen and it seems an entirely random cause of FA is probable for the studied traits.

The important mediator of phenotypic variation in ectothermic animals is temperature. The genetic and environmental effects on egg size are examined by dividing families of the tropical butterfly, Bicyclus anynana, among different adult temperatures.
