Evidence for the association of enteric bacterium Ewingella americana with internal stipe necrosis of Agaricus bisporus

Article Abstract:

Internal stipe necrosis (ISN) in Agaricus bisporus was analyzed from diseased samples of the button mushroom to determine the microbial origin of the destructive plant disease. Analysis of mushroom samples with ISN indicated the presence of microbial colonies of Ewingella americana in 93% of the samples. Koch's postulate trials also indicated the similarity of Ewingella americana strains from ISN-infected samples compared to the strain used for infection trials.
