Evidence for horizontal gene transfer as origin of putrescine production in Oenococcus oeni RM83

Article Abstract:

Putrescine producer Oenococcus oeni RM83 is used to determine the nucleotide sequence of a 17.2-kh chromosomal DNA fragment containing the ode gene encoding ornithine decarboxylase. Thirteen open reading frames, including genes coding for five transposases and two phage proteins are contained in the DNA fragment which represent the first evidence of a horizontal gene transfer event as the origin of a biogenic amine biosynthetic locus.

Engineering of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica for the production of glycoproteins lacking the outer-chain mannose residues of N-glycans

Article Abstract:

The functions of the OCH1 gene encoding a putative alpha-1,6-mannosyltransferase in Yarrowia lipolytica (Yl) is investigated to engineer a Yarrowia lipolytica strain to produce glycoproteins lacking the outer-chain mannose residues of N-linked oligosaccharides. It is indicated that YlOCH1 plays a key role in the outer-chain mannosylation of N-linked oligosaccharides in Y. lipolytica.

Genomic islands in the Cornyebacterium efficiens genome

Article Abstract:

Four genomic islands that have many unifying genomic island-specific features in the Corynebacterium efficiens genome were identified using the cumulative GC profile method. The presence of the gene encoding an aspartate kinase in a genomic island helps explain the unexpected low thermal stadbility of this enzyme.
