Evaluation of four methods for estimating parrot population size

Article Abstract:

The four methods for estimating parrot population size were evaluated by comparing population estimates to a reference population of Green-rump Parrotlets. The methods, namely, point transect, line transect, mark-resighting and roost survey methods, produced similar population estimates. Although behavioral characteristics of Green-rump Parrotlets met the assumptions and requirements of the methods, this process may not be applicable to other parrot species.

At-sea density monitoring of Marbled Murrelets in Central California: methodological considerations

Article Abstract:

The main aggregations of a small, isolated population of Marbled Murrelets along the coast of central California were surveyed using at sea line transect methods. Factors affecting variation in population density included shore distance, surveying time and viewing conditions. Line transect methods exhibited higher statistical survey results compared to strip transects.

Does risk of nest failure or adult predation influence hatching patterns of the Green-rumped Parrotlet?

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the maximum productivity which the Green-rumped Parrotlet achieved with the incubation of the first egg. Temporal patterns of predation on adult females and nest failure are discussed.
