Article Abstract:
Most strains of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli are sensitive to Col E1 to E8, K, and N on mitomycin C-containing agar, and to Col G, Col H and Mcc B17 on Luria agar. Col G, Col H and Mcc B17 suppress 22 to 27 of the 24 diarrheagenic stains tested, while Col D and Col Ia inhibit nine and 12 strains respectively. The strain 8C is resistant to some colicins. The results of the study indicate the potential of using colicins, bacteriocins produced by Enterobacteria, to regulate diarrheagenic E. coli strains, including serotype 0157:H7, in food and animals.

Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the impact of the KefB and KefC systems of Escherichia coli cells on the bacteria's adaptation to stress induced by iodoacetate (IOA) and chloroinitrobenzene (CDNB) activation. KefB and KefC activation by IOA and CDNB was found to result in significant potassium reduction. Results show that glutathione-gated K+ efflux systems KefB and KefC do not enhance protection of Escherichia coli exposed to IOA and CDNB.

Results demonstrate the antibacterial activity of a purified microcin J25 and determination of the minimum inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentrations with reference to Escherichia coli and contaminated milk, meat, and egg yolk.
