Estimation of the proportion of triploids in populations with diploid and triploid individuals

Article Abstract:

A new mathematical procedure developed to estimate the overall proportion of triploids in a sample made up of both diploid and triploid individuals is suitable for use with any codominant marker. It compensates for triploid individuals that have multiple copies of the same allele, and therefore produces an unbiased estimate of allele frequencies in the population. This approach can be extended to loci with more than three alleles.

Reconstitution of diploid Ambyostoma jeffersonianum (Amphibia: Caudata) in a hybrid, triploid egg mass with lethal consequences

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the reconstitution of diploid Ambyostoma jeffersonianum in a hybrid, triploid egg mass using electrophoretic and cytological markers. It was shown that reconstitution from a maternal genotype of A. laterale-(2) jeffersonianum produces nonviable diploid offsprings. Diploid salamanders were found to possess karyotypic anomalies which were not present in the triploid siblings.

Improved estimation of the proportion of triploids in populations with diploid and triploid individuals

Article Abstract:

Populations with both diploid and triploid individuals occur in certain plant and animal species. It is possible to estimate the proportion of triploids from phenotypic data if the same alleles occur with the same frequencies in diploids and triploids. Likelihood methods can address the problem based on the presence or absence of different alleles.
