Estimating variance components in natural populations using inferred relationships

Article Abstract:

Variance components in natural populations can be estimated using inferred relationships. Estimation of heritability of a trait has had to be done using knowledge of the pedigree within a population, not something that is always known for natural populations. A modified form of the likelihood technique which requires fewer initial assumptions about population parameters is offered. The method has less bias in estimates of heritability than the likelihood technique proposed originally.

Chloroplast DNA recognizes three refugial sources of European oaks and suggests independent eastern and western immigrations to Finland

Article Abstract:

The recognition by chloroplast DNA of three refugial sources of oaks seems to indicate independent eastern and western migration into Finland across the Baltic Sea. Quercus robur and Q. petraea, European oak species, were studied. The principal eastern, western and central cytotypes are in the range in three longitudinal zones, each going from the south to the north of Europe.

Effects of genotyping errors, missing values and segregation distortion in molecular markers data on the construction of linkage maps

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on genetic linkage maps. The analysis of the role of missing values, segregation distortion and genotyping errors in the construction of these maps has been carried out via the simulation study, and the results demonstrate that the presence of segregation distortion has little effect on the doubled-haploid population of size 150.
