Estimating Heritabilities and Genetic Correlations with Marker-Based Methods: An Experimental Test in Mimulus guttatus

Article Abstract:

Maximum likelihood procedures and method of moments are both tested as techniques for marker-based study of heritable genetic variation, using a greenhouse population of the herb Mimulus guttatus. Although both techniques underestimated variation, qualitatively good data can be obtained using them.

Mutational Bias in Penguin Microsatellite DNA

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that transversional bias found in penguin genetic research is linked to inaccurate DNA replication resulting from repeat tract sequence context. It is posited that phylogeny reconstruction should avoid using regions that flank repeat sequences.

Evaluation of Candidate Genes in the Absence of Positional Information: A Poor Bet on a Blind Dog!

Article Abstract:

Linkage analysis and functional candidate gene approach were used to determine genetic mutations, using canine retinal diseases as an illustration. Implications for both veterinary and human medicine are discussed.
