Essential role of phosphinositide metabolism in synaptic vesicle recycling

Article Abstract:

The role of phosphinositide metabolism, an essential role, in synaptic vesicle recycling is discussed relative to results of a study. Synaptojanin 1-deficient mice were found to show neurological defects and die soon after birth. In neurons of mutants, clathrin-coated vesicles accumulate int he cytomatrix-rich area surrounding the synaptic vesicle cluster in nerve endings.

Apoptotic pathways: paper wraps stone blunts scissors

Article Abstract:

Apoptotic pathways in chordates are discussed in this minireview article with some attention to other phyla where there are parallels. Understanding of activation of the caspases and of their functions is key to understanding apoptosis. These proteinases are specific for aspartic acid residues and cleave a variety of proteins.

Accessory protein facilitated CFTR-CFTR interaction, a molecular mechanism to potentiate the chloride channel activity

Article Abstract:

A novel hydrophilic cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) binding protein, CAP70 has been identified. It is concentrated on the apical surfaces. The CFTR channel can be changed to a more active conducting state through modification of intermolecular DFTR-CFTR contact enhanced by an accessory protein.
