Tumorigenesis in mice carrying a truncating Brca1 mutation

Article Abstract:

Tumorigenesis is discussed in this research communication article based on what has been seen in mice carrying a truncating Brca1 mutation. Mutant mice carrying a modification in the Bra1 locus that eliminates the C-terminal half of the protein product have been generated. Results show that the missing BRCT and/or other domains are dispensable for survival, but required for tumor suppression, depending on genetic background Lymphomas were seen at all ages. Sarcomas and carcinomas were seen after long latency. Striking variability was seen in histopathology.

Mzf1 controls cell proliferation and tumorigenesis

Article Abstract:

Mzf1 has been found using research in knockout mice to control tumorigenesis and cell proliferation in hemopoietic cells. Mzf1 can function as a tumor/growth suppressor in the hemopoietic compartment.

Essential role for caspase 8 in T-cell homeostasis and T-cell-mediated immunity

Article Abstract:

Caspase 8 has been found to play a required role in T-cell homeostasis and in T-cell-mediated immunity. Mice with a targeted caspase 8 mutation restricted to the T-cell lineage were generated to study the role. Although normal thymocyte development was seen, so were a distinct decrease in the number of peripheral T-cells and impaired ex vivo T-cell response to activation stimuli . Death receptor-mediated apoptosis problems are linked to cancer and autoimmune disease.
