ErbB2 makes beta4 integrin an accomplice in tumorigenesis

Article Abstract:

Integrins modulate signaling by growth factor receptors, though it is unclear how cooperation between integrins and receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) regulates the initiation of tumor formation and progression to carcinoma. A study reveals that alpha6beta4 integrin cooperates with ErbB2 in the formation of mammary tumors and finds distinct pathways that regulate cellular proliferation and adhesion downstream of the ErbB2-integrin complex.

IkappaB kinase promotes tumorigenesis through inhibition of forkhead FOXO3a

Article Abstract:

The pathological relationship between phosphoylated-Akt (Akt-p) and FOXO3a in primary tumors was studied. It was found that FOXO3a was excluded from the nuclei of a few tumors lacking in Akt-p that leads one to believe the existence of an AKT-p independent mechanism to regulate FOXO3a localization and was found that constitutive expression of IKKbeta promotes cell proliferation and tumorigenesis can be overridden by FOXO3a.

The set1 methyltransferase opposes Ipl1 aurora kinase functions in chromosome segregation

Article Abstract:

A report reveals that the balance in the activities of the Ipl1 Aurora kinase and the Glc7 phosphatase is modulated by the Set1 methyltransferase. Observations also suggest that Set1 is required for methylation of conserved lysines in a kinetochore protein, Dam1.
