Enzymatic combustion of aromatic and aliphatic compounds by manganese peroxidase from Nematoloma frowardii

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted evaluating the direct involvement of manganese peroxidase (MnP) in the mineralization of natural and xenobiotic compounds from the white rot fungus Nematoloma frowardii. The MnP system converted several aromatic compounds to carbon dioxide. Mineralization was found to be dependent on the ratio of MnP activity to concentration of reduced glutathione. The formation of highly polar products was observed with some of the aromatic compounds whose products were probably low-molecular-weight carboxylic acids.

Novel haloperoxidase from the agaric basidiomycete Agrocybe aegerita oxidizes aryl alcohols and aldehydes

Article Abstract:

A novel type of peroxidase from the basidiomycetous fungus Agrocybe aegerita, a common edible mushroom in Mediterranean countries, which oxidizes aryl alcohols and aldehydes at neutral pH and shows haloperoxidase activity is described. The existence of haloperoxidases in basidiomycetous fungi is significant for the natural formation of chlorinated organic compounds in forest soils.

The coprophilous mushroom Coprinus radians secretes a haloperoxidase that catalyzes aromatic peroxygenation

Article Abstract:

The peroxidase activities of two coprophilous and litter-decomposing species of the genus Coprinus, namely Coprinus radians and Coprinus verticallatus are studied. The results show that the haloperoxidase secreted by Coprinus radians is used to catalyze the aromatic peroxygenation reaction.
