Environmental whole-genome amplification to access microbial populations in contaminated sediments
Article Abstract:
The construction of whole-genome-amplified environmental libraries for biodiversity assessment of low biomass contaminated subsurface sediment cores is reported. Whole-genome amplification of metagenomic DNA from very minute microbial sources will allow access to genomic information that was not accessible.

Exploring nitrilase sequence space for enantioselective catalysis
Article Abstract:
Nitrilase sequence space of 137 unique nitrilases was studied for determining their enantioselectivity in catalysis, substrate specificity and stereospecificity. The enzymes can be used for the evolutionary and structural analyses and presents a toolbox for enantiospecific synthesis.

Targeted access to the genomes of low-abundance organisms in complex microbial communities
Article Abstract:
The use of taxon specific separation of microbial cells by flow cytometry is combined with whole-genome amplification to gain access to low-abundance soil bacterium from the candidate TM7 division.
