Engineering synthetic pathway for isopropanol production in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

A synthetic pathway is engineered in Escherichia coli in order to produce isopropanol by expressing various combinations of genes from Clostridium acetobutylicum ATCC 824, E. coli K-12 MG1655, Clostridium beijerinckii NRRL B593, and Thermoanaerobacter brockii HTD4. The studies have shown that isopropanol is produced in Escherichia coli for the first time and the titer exceeded that from the native producers.

Making all parts of the 16S rRNA of Escherichia coli accessible in situ to single DNA oligonucleotides

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate the accessibility of the 16S rRNA of Escherichia coli to fluorescent-labeled oliginucleotides when thermodynamic and kinetic barriers were eliminated. It was observed that the reason behind the absence of a truly inaccessible target regions in the 16S rRNA, was the fact that every nucleotide in the 16S rRNA of E. coli could be targeted with a bright probe.

DNA microarray analysis is carried out to reveal the genes involved in the resistance of Escherichia coli O157:H7 to pressure. Ultrahigh pressure has a profound effect on the transcriptional profile of E. coli O157:H7.
