Article Abstract:
An expression vector system has been developed, for introducing and expressing cloned cry genes of Bacillus thuringiensis, that encode a diverse group of crystal-forming proteins with insecticidal activity. The vector system combines a native B. thuringiensis plasmid replicon with an indigenous site-specific recombination system. This combination allows the selective removal of foreign DNA from the recombinant bacterium after the introduction of the Cry-encoding plasmid vector. This removes the necessity of maintaining copies of an antibiotic resistance gene.

Article Abstract:
The genetic inheritance of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki resistance in a Trichoplusia ni, colony obtained from a commercial vegetable greenhouse population was studied and presented. The finding suggests that the resistance to B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki in a moderately resistant T.ni population appears to be due to an autosomal partially recessive trait, as determined by comparisons of dosemortality curves for resistant, susceptible, hybrid and backcross progeny.

Article Abstract:
A PCR-based screening procedure was used to screen the collection of Bacillus thuringienis isolates for Vip3 genes. The study results show that Vip3Ac1 and its chimeric Vip3 genes could be excellent candidates for engineering a new generation of transgenic plants for insect pest control.
