Article Abstract:
A library of CAAX proteins tagged with green fluorescent protein (GFP) was used to study gene expression in Ras proteins and protein traffic within the endomembrane system. The GFP-tagged CAAX proteins were found to be localized within living cells using high resolution epifluorescence microscopy. Results have indicated that prenylated CAAX proteins do not associate directly with the plasma membrane. Instead, these proteins were found to associate with the endomembrane and transported to the plasma membrane through a secondary targeting motif.

Article Abstract:
Studies have revealed that recycling membrane proteins were found in all vesicular tubular cluster (VTC) subdomains, while secretory proteins prevailed in COPI-negative regions of the VTC tubules. Findings indicate that a flow of unconcentrated soluble proteins out of the endoplasmic reticulum by COPII-coated vesicles are mostly in the VTC tubules since these proteins cannot enter retrograde vesicles. VTCs play an important role in soluble cargo concentration by exclusion from COPI-coated domains.

Article Abstract:
The Golgi protein GMAP-210 is sufficient to confer pericentrosomal positioning and recruits gamma-tubulin and associated microtubule-nucleating ring complex proteins to Golgi membranes. The findings raise the possibility that short microtubules emanate from the Golgi to mediate its organization and positioning.
