Effects of granule-associated protein PhaP on glycerol-dependent growth and polymer production in poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)-producing Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The effect of PhaP, a phasin, on bacterial growth and the accumulation of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) from glycerol in bioreactor cultures of recombinant Escherichia coli carrying phaBAC from Azotobacter sp. strain FA8 are examined. The behavior of recombinant Escherichia coli strains carrying phasin genes in a bioreactor is useful in the design of bacterial strains sufficient for the efficient production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) from glycerol.

Minimization of glycerol production during the high-performance fed-batch ethanolic fermentation process in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, using a metabolic model as a prediction tool

Article Abstract:

A metabolic model was used to predict the operating conditions that would reduce glycerol production during ethanol fermentation. Experimental validation of the simulation results was done by monitoring the inlet substrate feeding during fed-batch Saccharomyces cerevisiae cultivation in order to maintain the respiratory quotient (RQ) value between 4 and 5 that resulted in high level of ethanol production.

Microbial conversion of glycerol to 1, 3-propanediol: Physiology comparison of a natural producer, Clostridium butyricum VPI 3266, and an engineered strain, Clostridium acetobutylicum DGI (pSPD5)

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted on the comparative physiological behavior of the recombinant Clostridium bacetobutylicum DG1(pSPD5) strain with that of the natural 1,3-propanediol producer Clostridium butyricum VPI 3266, by growing both the strains in chemostat cultures with glycerol as the sole carbon source. It is observed that both the strains showed the same 'global behavior'.
