Effective population size in Hymenoptera with complementary sex determination

Article Abstract:

The effects of diploid male production of N(sub e) in hymenopterans with complementary sex determination when diploid males are either inviable or effectively sterile are assessed theoretically. The N(sub e) of hymenopteran populations reduces by the low allelic diversity at the sex locus and this effect is largest when diploid males are effectively sterile.

Quantitative genetic variation in an island population of the speckled wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria)

Article Abstract:

Quantitative genetic variation for the Speckled Wood butterfly Pararge aegeria is analysed on the island of Madeira about 120 generations after first colonization. Observations reveal reduction of additive genetic variance since colonization.
