Effect on components of the intestinal microflora and plasma neuropeptide levels of feeding Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Bifidobacterium lactis, and inulin to adult and elderly rats

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare the effects of the mixture of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. rhamnosus strain GG, Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12 and inulin on intestinal populations of lactobacilli, bifidobacteria and enterobacteria in adult and elderly rats fed the same diet. The results indicate that the physiological status of the GI tract, and not just diet, has a major role in the regulation of important groups of the GI bacteria community, since even the outcome of the dietary modification with synbiotics depends on the ages of the animals.

Comparative sequence analysis of plasmids from Lactobacillus delbrueckii and construction of a shuttle cloning vector

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of a native plasmid (pDOJ1) from a strain of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus B36 is conducted and a functional shuttle cloning vector for the industrially relevant organism is developed. It is found that the shuttle cloning vector pDOJ4 provides a new tool for molecular analysis of Lactobacillus delbrueckii and other lactic acid bacteria.
