Article Abstract:
The effect of previous exposure to Nearctic Ixodes vector ticks on the susceptibility of native reservoir mice to infection from Lyme disease spirochetes was investigated. Findings showed that the mice which have been previously exposed to tick bites were as susceptible to Lyme disease infection as those that were not. Repeated exposures to tick bites also did not decrease the susceptibility to Lyme disease infections.

Article Abstract:
Blackbirds (Turdus merula) and song thrushes (Turdus philomelos) are found to carry spirochete-infected tick larvae among 40 bird species captured in Central Europe. Majority of the infections are typed as Borrelia garinii and Borrelia valaisiana and the thrushes are shown to be key players in the maintenance of the spirochete species in this region of Central Europe.
