Eclipsed distribution: a phenomenon of dual targeting of protein and its significance

Article Abstract:

The eclipsed distribution phenomenon is described and examples of dual targeting proteins, the mechanisms by which they can occur and the experimental approaches for exposing them are illustrated. It is shown that diseases can result from protein intracellular mislocalization and the awareness of the concept of protein-eclipsed distribution will help in identifying more cases of disease-related eclipsed distribution.

Deeper into the maize: New insights into genomic imprinting in plants

Article Abstract:

The methylation status of two maternally expressed genes, fie1 and fie2, in the male and female gametes of maize as well as the endosperm and embryo are examined. The results have shown that the behavior of one gene supports existing models of the mechanism of plant imprinting, while the other potentially challenges the idea that plant imprinted genes are activated by methylation removal.

Association by guilt: Identification of DLX5 as a target for MeCP2 provides a molecular link between genomic imprinting and Rett syndrome

Article Abstract:

Rett syndrome (RTT) is an X-linked dominant neuro-development disorder affecting almost exclusively girls. Altered expression of Dlx5 through loss of silent chromatin loop formation provides a molecular mechanism underlying RTT and a process a novel role for MeCP2 in chromatin organization and imprinting.
