Driving actin dynamics under the influence of alcohol

Article Abstract:

Studies about the dynamic regulation of the actin cytoskeleton in flies and mice were carried out to understand the cellular and behavioral responses to alcohol. The findings show that discrete changes in the actin cytoskeleton in certain neuronal cell types could alter the cellular and behavioral response to alcohol, which fits with the notion that mutations in genes encoding regulators and effectors of small GTPases might contribute to certain neurological disorders.

Rho and Rac take center stage

Article Abstract:

The impact of the effectors of Rho and Rac on the regulation of actin cytoskeleton is studied. The strategies developed by bacterial pathogens to manipulate Rho protein activity to enhance their own survival are discussed.

MreB actin-mediated segregation of a specific region of a bacterial chromosome

Article Abstract:

The potential role of the actin-like MreB protein in bacterial chromosome segregation is investigated. The MreB is demonstrated as the direct target of the small molecule A22.
