Drawing lines and borders: How the dehiscent fruit of Arabidopsis is patterned

Article Abstract:

The seed dispersal in plant Arabidopsis is studied and is found to be dependent on the careful patterning of tissues in the fruit that enables it to open at maturation. This knowledge creates a foundation to understand the evolution of fruit forms in other species and provides a tool to engineer shatter-resistance seedpods to prevent crop loss.

My favorite molecule: The androgen recptor mRNA

Article Abstract:

Androgens acting via the androgen receptor, a nuclear transcription factor, regulates male sexual development, body composition and confers better prognosis in breast cancer. The mechanisms involved in regulating AR mRNA stability, the nature, potential role and structural biology of ARmRNA- protein instructions are discussed.

Imprinting and looping: Epigenetic marks control interactions between regulatory elements

Article Abstract:

Gene regulation involves various cis-regulatory elements that can act at a distance. A novel view on the way regulatory elements influence gene expression and how epigenetic modifications modulate their long-range effects.
