Downstream control of upstream open reading frames

Article Abstract:

Important new insights into upstream open reading frames (u-ORF) mediated regulatory mechanisms are provided and the findings show that in the absence of the Her-2 3UTR, the Her-2, uORF is inhibitory in all cell types tested, but the 3 UTR relieves inhibition in specific tumor cells. Future work delineating the cis-acting sequences in the 5 UTR and 3 UTR's and determining which factors are essential will help elucidate the underlying mechanism of Her-2 over expression in cancer cells.

Ehd1, a b-type response regulator in rice, confers short-day promotion of flowering and controls FT-like gene expression independently of Hd1

Article Abstract:

The rice early heading date 1 (Ehd 1) gene, that confers SD promotion of flowering in the absence of a functional allele of Hd1, encodes a Bb-type response regulator. The signaling cascade is integrated into the conserved pathway in the photoperiodic control of flowering in rice.

Long-range action of Nodal requires interaction with GDF1

Article Abstract:

A study shows that the exact function of the growth/differentiation factor 1 (GDF1) is not an effective ligand but directly interacts with Nodal, thereby increasing its specific activity.
