Replication fork pausing and recombination or "gimme a break"

Article Abstract:

Replication fork pausing in prokaryotes and eukaryotes is discussed in this review article. Recent breakthroughs are opening the way for more discoveries about the process, which is highly conserved. Replication blocks are distinguished from pause sites as well as programmed vs accidental pausing. The coordination of chromosome replication and cell cycle is chiefly at the level of replication initiation, but the replication terminus has a role, comprising elements responsible for the connection of replication termination and cell division. How pausing can lead to greater recombination is discussed.

FtsK functions in the processing of a Holliday junction intermediate during bacterial chromosome segregation

Article Abstract:

FtsK has been found to be active in processing of a Holliday junction intermediate in chromosome segregation in bacteria. Cycles of XerC-mediated strand exchanges form and resolve Holliday junction intermediates back to substrate whether or not conditions support complete recombination reaction.

Double-strand-break repair recombination in Escherichia coli: physical evidence for a DNA replication mechanism in vivo

Article Abstract:

Physical evidence for a DNA replication mechanism in vivo is has been found in the double-strand-break repair recombination in Escherichia coli. Data give evidence that accumulation of recombination intermediates promotes replication greatly. Results of a study show a replication recombination route in E. coli. The replication and break-join recombination mechanisms can be separated.
