Diversity of environmental Mycobacterium isolates from hemodialysis water as shown by a multigene sequencing approach
Article Abstract:
A multigene sequencing approach was used for the identification and molecular typing of environmental mycobacteria of the fast growing subgroup by isolating strain from hemodialysis water and clinical samples. The results indicate high genetic diversity among the isolates obtained, which might be new species of the genus.

Development of a quantitative assay for mycobacterial endogenous arabinase and ensuing studies of arabinase levels and arabinan metabolism in Mycobacterium smegmatis
Article Abstract:
A quantitative assay for endogenous arabinase is developed to better understand the phenomenon of the loss of arabinan due to the action of an endogenous arabinase. Using the assay it is determined that various subcellular fractions of Mycobacterium smegmatis show significant amounts of endogenous arabinase activity.

Molecular cloning and expression of genes encoding a novel dioxygenase involved in low- and high-molecular-weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon degradation in Mycobacterium vanbaalenii PYR-1
Article Abstract:
Mycobacterium vanbaalenii PYR-1 is able to metabolic a wide range of low- and high-molecular-weight (HMW) polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). A 20-kDa protein was upregulated in PAH-metabolizing M. vanbaalenii PYR-1 cells compared to control cultures.
