Article Abstract:
West African Aspergillus section Flavi isolates differ from those found in North America. While both isolates produce aflatoxin B, 40 and 100% of West African isolates also produce aflatoxin G(sub 1) in NH(sub 4) medium and urea medium, respectively. In contrast, North American isolates do not produce aflatoxin G(sub 1). This physiological and geographical divergence of West African and North American isolates of Aspergillus section Flavi may affect aflatoxin management.

Article Abstract:
Liquid cultures of Aspergillus flavus AF13 from cotton seed coat tissue have an inhibitory effect on the production of aflatoxin due to a cottonseed-specific xylan. The concentration of inhibitor in the fermentation medium inversely affects the generation of aflatoxin. The purified inhibitor from the seed coat is neutral in charge. The analysis of the carbohydrate in the inhibitor fraction indicates the presence of more than 90% xylose and mannose.

Article Abstract:
Microbiological research shows that the enzyme polygalacturonase, P2c, is produced by some isolates of the microorganism Aspergillus flavus. Genetic research using modified pecA genes proves that P2c helps A. flavus to infect cotton bolls. Thus pectinase genes are actively involved in pathogenic fungal infections. Intercarpellary membrane damage verses bright greenish yellow fluorescence is shown.
