Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the diurnal fluctuation of metabolic reactions to short-term fasting in passerine birds during postbreeding, molting and migration. Results found that the metabolic reaction of short-term fasted birds during the day is different from that of overnight fasted birds. Short-term fasting in small passerines was found to be metabolically identical to the transitional first phase in long-term fasting large birds. Birds during the postbreeding, molting and migratory period exhibited similar reaction to short-term fasting.

Article Abstract:
The nocturnal body temperature of Griffon Vultures (Gyps Fulvus) was found to be lower than their diurnal body temperature, particularly for birds that have been deprived of food. This was revealed when, implanted with temperature measuring radio transmitters in their abdominal cavities, variations in the body temperature of six captive Griffon Vultures were measured over 24 hours. The decrease in nocturnal body temperature may have been caused by their adaptation to reduced energy requirements during food shortage.

Article Abstract:
A study of the digestion of chitin by Northern Bobwhites and American Robins was presented. Results show that Northern Bobwhites metabolize energy in a significantly higher rate than that of American Robins. The chitin digestibility in both species was measured. The observed chitin digestibility was higher in Bobwhites. However, it was higher with American Robins after acclimation.
