Diurnal, intraseasonal, and intersexual variation in foraging behavior of the Common Yellowthroat

Article Abstract:

Common Yellowthroats on the central California coast vary their foraging behavior independently, in response to diurnal and intraseasonal timing. They select arroyo willow at both, within 10 m and over the entire area of availability, during all diurnal and seasonal periods. Foraging methods of the birds change intraseasonally, but are independent of the diurnal period. Male Yellowthroats forage at greater heights, use flycatching methods more often, and are better adapted morphologically and behaviorally.
