Distribution of genes for synthesis of trehalose and mannosylglycerate in Thermus spp. and direct correlation of these genes with halotolerance

Article Abstract:

The presence of genes leading to the synthesis of trehalose and mannosylglycerate (MG) in 17 strains of the genus Thermus with the ability of the strains to grow and accumulate these compatible solutes in a defined medium containing NaCl is correlated. The results indicated that the combined accumulation of trehalose and MG is required for optimal osmotic adjustment.

The bacterium Thermus thermophilus, like hyperthermophilic archaea, uses a two-step pathway for the synthesis of mannosylglycerate

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on solute alpha-mannosylglycerate in thermophilic bacterium Thermus thermophilus HB27. The authors report that biosynthetic pathway for the synthesis of this alpha-mannosylglycerate has been identified via the studies of activities of recombinant mannosyl-3-phosphoglycerate synthase and mannosyl-3-phosphoglycerate phosphatase.

Development of a thermally regulated broad-spectrum promoter system for use in pathogenic gram-positive species

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on gene expression regulation. The authors demonstrate that P1 temperature-sensitive C1 repressor can control gene expression via the use of promoters in pathogenic gram-positive species.
