Distribution of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae DNA modification systems in Asia

Article Abstract:

XorI and XorII are two DNA modification systems in Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae. Their presence or absence was determined in 195 strains from different countries in Asia. The distribution of the various phenotypes exhibit variation in the geographical regions under consideration. The geographic origin of these DNA modification systems and their migration across Asia are discussed.

Incidence of Klebsiella species in surface waters and their expression of virulence factors

Article Abstract:

Klebsiella species isolated from aquatic environments are just as likely as those isolated from humans to display virulence factors such as pili, siderophores, serum resistance types, and particular capsular polysaccharides. This was the conclusion of researchers who compared 123 Klebsiella strains isolated from natural surface water and 207 isolated from human tissue samples.

Pigment and virulence deficiencies associated with mutations in the aroE gene of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae

Article Abstract:

Research suggests that normal virulence and xanthomonadin pigment production levels in Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae are dependent on aroE, a shikimate dehydrogenase encoder for bacterial species. Bacterial leaf blight, a serious rice crop disease, is caused by X. oryzae pv. oryzae; implications of the findings are discussed.
