Distribution and diversity of natural product genes in marine and freshwater cyanobacterial cultures and genomes

Article Abstract:

The detection of natural products activities and the sequence identification of gene fragments from two molecular systems, nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPs) and modular polyketide synthases (PKSs), in diverse marine and freshwater cyanobacterial cultures is described. Results demonstrate that there is remarkable diversity and novelty of these two genes within the cyanobacteria.

Molecular detection and ecological significance of the cyanobacterial genera geitlerinema and leptolyngbya in black band disease of corals

Article Abstract:

The cyanobacteria is isolated from black band disease into culture which confirms their presence in the BBD community by using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. The results confirm the presence of Geitlerinema in the BBD community and its ecological significance.

Detection of the isiA gene across cyanobacterial strains: potential for probing iron deficiency

Article Abstract:

Iron deficiency in cyanobacteria can be assessed by measuring the expression of the isiA gene. In Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803, gene expression begins when the concentration of iron citrate decreases and growth begins to decline.
