Distribution and diversity of Archaea corresponding to the limnological cycle of a hypersaline stratified lake (Solar Lake, Sinai, Egypt)
Article Abstract:
Most of the 165 clones of bacteria identified in Solar Lake, Egypt, can be grouped into four clusters. The Halobacteriaceae belong in one cluster, bacteria phylogenetically located between Methanobacterium and Methanococcus make up another cluster, and clusters three and four consist of two groups of euryarchaeota related to Thermoplasma.

Unexpected population distribution in a microbial mat community: sulfate-reducing bacteria localized to the highly oxic chemocline in contrast to a eukaryotic preference for anoxia
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to address the relationships between physiology of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) and their distribution and activity. The data show that populations of SRB preferentially occupy regions of oxygen and eukaryotes found in regions depleted in oxygen.

Diversity of sulfate-reducing bacteria in oxic and anoxic regions of a microbial mat characterized by comparative analysis of dissimilatory sulfite reductase genes
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to examine distribution of sulfate-reducing bacterial (SRB) populations in hypersaline cyanobacterial mat environment with respect to oxygen levels. Results indentify that Desulfonema-like SRBs live in oxic regions.
