Distinguishing nitrous oxide production from nitrification and denitrification on the basis of isotopomer abundances

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on the production of nitrous oxide by hydroxylamine oxidation, by ammonia oxidizers and by a methanotroph, and the nitrite and nitrate reduction by denitrifiers. It was observed that site preferences were 33% characteristic of nitrification and 0% characteristic of denitrification and provide a basis to quantatively apportion nitrous oxide.

Bacterial diversity in a nonsaline alkaline environment: Heterotrophic aerobic populations

Article Abstract:

Heterotrophic populations are isolated and characterized from an alkaline groundwater environment generated by active sepentinization, which results in a Ca(OH)(sub 2) with pH 11.4. The isolates are screened to assess the degree of diversity present in the environment and to select representative strains for characterization of the populations.

Application of Streptococcus uberis multilocus sequence typing: Analysis of the population structure detected among environmental and bovine isolates from New Zealand and the United Kingdom

Article Abstract:

Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was used to study the population biology of bovine milk isolates from the United Kingdom and New Zealand. The scheme was initially used to study a collection of 160 bovine milk isolates from the United Kingdom and showed that the majority of isolates were from one complex (designated the ST-5 complex).
