Distinctions between c-Rel and other NF-kB proteins in immunity and disease

Article Abstract:

A proto-oncogene c-Rel, previously identified as a cellular counterpart of the v-Rel oncogene, belongs to the NF-KB/Rel factor family that share common DNA recognition and similar pathways. The study of c-Rel knockout mice in several disease model will be discussed for revealing an important role in response to allergens, auto-antigens, allo-antigens and pathogenic infection.

Repair of exocyclic DNA adducts: rings of complexity

Article Abstract:

Exocyclic DNA adducts are mutagenic lesions that can be formed by both exogenous and endogenous mutagens/carcinogens. It is also apparent that more information is needed for better understanding of the biological and structural implications of exocyclic adducts and their repair.

The many colours of chromodomains

Article Abstract:

The information gained from the functional and structural studies of chromodomains with a bioinformatic classification of their structure is put forth. The results of the study show an unexpected diversity of interaction targets, including DNA, RNA and histones.
