Article Abstract:
The discovery of a mesodermal cell that links the leading cells of Drosophila tracheal system main branches before they fuse is reported. The Drosophila tracheal system has branch outgrowth triggered by localized, transient activity of Branchless. The bridge-cell acts as an essential guide and must have Hunchback (Hb) activity to work. It gives cues acting with Bnl/dFGF signaling to mediate directed branch outgrowth that leads to position-specific branch fusion, ultimately.

Article Abstract:
The role of leucine-rich repeat transmembrane proteins, Capricious and Tartan, in development of tracheal system during morphogenesis in Drosophila, is analyzed. These proteins help tracheal cells to interact with mesodermal cells.
