Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to test whether nitrite accumulation observed in the rivers in the Lough Neagh catchment system in Northern Ireland could be ascribed to dissimilatory NO3- reduction to ammonium. The supernatant was filtered sequentially through GF/C and GF/F filters while multiple regression analyses were performed for individual rivers. Results showed nitrite as a common intermediate in at least three different biochemical pathways that occur in freshwater sediments.

Article Abstract:
The effects of potassium tellurite (K2TeO3) on the cell viability of the facultative phototroph Rhodobacter capsulatus are described. The data is taken as evidence that in anaerobic aquatic habitats, the facultative phototroph R. capsulatus may act as a natural scavenger of the highly soluble and toxic oxyanion tellurite.

A study to characterize the bacterium-destroying properties of a gliding arc plasma device during electric discharges and under temporal postdischarge conditions was conducted. The efficiency of the postdischarge was seen to be affected by the discharge time.
