Dispersion patterns of clonally related cells during development of the hypothalamus

Article Abstract:

The patterns of clonal distribution during early development of the hypothalamus were investigated by screening clones against a library of replication-incompetent avian retroviruses. Simple radial columns were observed at Embryonic Days 8-10. Only a small number of clones exhibited unusual distribution: one was bilaterally symmetric across the ventral forebrain, another consisted of four or more columns of cells arranged in a line along the ventricular surface, and a third was composed of cells arranged in a pattern parallel to the ventricular surface. These results suggest that there are different patterns of clonal dispersion.

Two chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans differentially expressed in the developing chick visual system

Article Abstract:

The visual system of a growing chick possesses two distinct chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans (CSPGs) that are expressed differentially and identified by 289 and 9BA12, two monoclonal antibodies. Immunohistochemical studies reveal that the posterior sclerotome vitreous body and meninges contain collagen type IX proteoglycan, which is recognized by 9BA12 and designated 9BA12 CSPG. This CSPG is incapable of functioning as a neurite outgrowth inhibitor for retinal axons. 2B9 identifies a collagenase-sensitive CSPG, which is a carbohydrate epitope of the short and long forms of collagen type IX proteoglycan.
