Discontinuity of life conditions at the transition from the Roman Imperial Age to the Early Middle Ages: example from central Italy evaluated by pathological dento-alveolar lesions

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the dental remains of archeological specimens reveals a deterioration in living standards during the transition from the Roman Empire to the Middle Ages. The specimens came from three populations of central Italy, two of which lived during the Roman Empire and one during the Middle Ages. The medieval sample had dental caries and other pathological conditions not seen in the Roman sample.

Porotic hyperostosis as a marker of health and nutritional conditions during childhood: studies at the transition between Imperial Rome and the Early Middle Ages

Article Abstract:

The prevalence of porotic hyperostosis in skeletal samples from Latium sheds light on health and nutritional conditions of childhood during the transition from Imperial Rome to the early Middle Ages. Early childhood iron deficiency anemia is believed to be the cause of the hyperostotic lesions in the samples.

Origin and distribution of Daltonism in Italy

Article Abstract:

The aim of this study was to show the incidence of vision blindness in Italy. Samples of 500 males were taken and assessed, showing that there was a difference in mean percentage of people from the coast and people from inland.
