Application of neural computing methods for interpreting phospholipid fatty acid profiles of natural microbial communities

Article Abstract:

Results show that phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) analysis by neural network computing method is comparable to that of conventional principal components analysis and linear discriminant analysis techniques. Data indicate that sediment and burrow type microbial communities exhibit different PLFA profiles.

Direct profiling of environmental microbial populations by thermal dissociation analysis of native rRNAs hybridized to Oligonucleotide microarrays

Article Abstract:

Research describes rRNA profiles from environmental microbial populations using oligonucleotide microarrays. Results from two distinct estuarine sites reveal reproducible hybridization patterns and the patterns differ depending on salinities.

Evaluation of gel-pad oligonucleotide microarray technology by using artificial neural networks

Article Abstract:

The performance of gel-pad microarray technologies is evaluated using artificial neural networks, which were trained to recognize patterns in the form of melting profiles. The placement of the grid frames and the background subtraction method used by the image analysis system were the main sources of inconsistencies that contributed to the poor melting profiles, whereas the duplexes with low binding constants had highly variable melting profiles as SI values approached the detection limit of the system.
