Direct cell-cell communication: A new approach derived from recent data on the nature and self-organization of ultradian (circahoralian) intracellular rhythms

Article Abstract:

Data concerning ultradian intracellular rhythms are used to assess the biochemical mechanisms of direct cell--cell communications and new results suggest a fractal nature of ultradian rhythms and their self-organization. Ultradian intracellular rhythms may provide a finer framework within which the integrated dynamics of respiration, heart rate, brain activity, and even behavioral patterns, are brought to an optimal functional pattern.

The brain's calendar: neural mechanisms of seasonal timing

Article Abstract:

A focus on the neuronal organization and dynamic properties of the biological clock, and the means by which it is synchronized with the environmental lighting conditions is brought out. It is shown that the functional activity of the biological clock is entrained to the seasonal photic cycle and that photoperiod may act as an effective zeitgeber.

Cannabinoid pharmacology in the cardiovascular system: potential protective mechanisms through lipid signaling

Article Abstract:

The focus is on the regulatory and possible protective roles of canabinoids in the heart and vasculature and the evidence that these may be mediated by novel canabinoids receptors. It was shown that the cardiovascular effects and the receptors mediating them are the subject of increasing investigative interest.
