Article Abstract:
Internal transcribed spacers (ITS) sequences of the ribosomal gene are useful for detecting isolates from the species complex of the fungi Ganoderma lucidum and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) is useful in distinguishing between isolates with similar ITS sequences. The use of RAPD fragments as phenotypic characters in numerical and parsimony analyses indicates that ITS does not detect the same clades as RAPDs does. RAPD is useful in systematics at the lower taxonomic levels that are difficult to distinguish with ITS data.

Article Abstract:
Examination of the influence of the effects of incubation time and temperature on the efficiency of isolates of the chlamydosporic and thermophilic fungus Ganoderma colossum to induce selective delignification of silver leaf oak reveals that temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius and incubation times of 8 to 12 weeks facilitated selective delignification. Longer incubation periods lead to significant removal of polysaccharide and higher degradation of wood cell walls.

Article Abstract:
Production of lignin-modifying enzymes (LMEs) by Ganoderma lucidum, a white rot basidiomycete, under varying culturing conditions has been described with emphasis on laccase, a lignin-modifying enzyme. No lignin peroxidase (LiP) activity was seen in the media tested, but probing the genomic DNA with the LiP cDNA from the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium showed definite hybridization bands suggesting the presence lip-like sequences in G. lucidum.
