Novel approach for improving the productivity of antibiotic-producing strains by inducing combined resistant mutations
Article Abstract:
Researchers were able to increase the production of the antibiotic actinorhodin by Streptomyces coelicolor A3(2) by introducing genes for resistance to streptomycin, gentamicin, and rifampin. This resulted in a mutant that produced 48 times more actinorhodin than the wild-type bacterium.

Development of antibiotic-overproducing strains by site-directed mutagenesis of the rpsL gene in Streptomyces lividans
Article Abstract:
This article describes the application of site-directed mutagenesis for strain improvement in terms of antibiotic overproduction in Streptomyces lividans. Mutation of the rpsL gene, encoding the ribosomal protein S12, substantially activate the antibiotic production. Data indicate that L90K and R94G mutants exhibit enhanced antibiotic production than that of K88E.

Innovative approaches for improvement of an antibiotics-overproducing industrial strain of Streptomyces albus
Article Abstract:
The efficacy of introducing drug resistance-producing mutations for further strain improvement is demonstrated. Improvement of the salinomycin productivity of the industrial strain by 2,3-fold is observed by introducing a triple mutation.
