Development of a universal microarray based on the ligation detection reaction and 16S rRNA gene polymorphism to target diversity of cyanobacteria

Article Abstract:

The development and validation of a microarray for the identification of cyanobacteria in aquatic environments is described with the help of a ligation detection reaction coupled to a universal array. The findings indicate that a high discriminative power and sensitivity to 1 fmol of the PCR-amplified 16S rRNA.

Diversity of toxic and nontoxic Nodularia isolates (Cyanobacteria) and filaments from the Baltic Sea

Article Abstract:

Researchers show that Nodularia spumigena, N. baltica, and N. litorea are really one species based on an analysis of the 16S-23S rRNA internally transcribed spacer and the phycocyanin operon intergenic spacer. These organisms are planktic and produce a pentapeptide hepatotoxin called nodularin.

Quantitative real-time PCR detection of toxic Nodularia cyanobacteria in the Baltic Sea

Article Abstract:

A specific and sensitive quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) method is developed for targeting the hepatotoxin nodularin synthetase gene subunit F (ndaF). This method is used to detect the ndaF containing genomes of nodularin-producing Nodularia cyanobacteria of the Baltic Sea.
