Development of a method for detection of Giardia duodenalis cysts on lettuce and for simultaneous analysis of salads products for the presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts

Article Abstract:

A method is developed for detecting Giardia duodenalis cysts on lettuce, which is further used for examining salad products for the presence of Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts. The incorporation of the fluorogenic oocyst and cyst reporter system has enhanced the quality assurance and has identified the importance of the food matrix effect in various commercial salad products.

Real-time PCR for quantification of Giardia and Cryptosporidium in environmental water samples and sewage

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on protozoan pathogen Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum. The authors describe the development of primers and TaqMan probes based on G. lamblia's beta-giardin gene and C. parvum's COWP gene, and the use of these samples and probes for detection of Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts in envonmental samples of water and sewage.

Sensitivity of nested PCR in the detection of low numbers of Giardia lamblia cysts

Article Abstract:

The studies carried out to determine the efficiency of nested PCR to amplify the DNA from low numbers of Giardia lamblia cysts suggest nested PCR as well adapted for Giardia lamblia single-cyst detection.
