Article Abstract:
Fatty stain removal is one of the most persistent problems in laundry cleaning. High temperature and alkalinity in washing conditions proved to be the best solution for the problem. A fermentation process based on the production of alkaline lipase from Pseudomonas alcaligenes was then developed for such applications. This was done by optimizing the genetic expression of the lipase in the host bacteria. Soybean oil was used in the fermentation because of the inability of P. alcaligenes to grow on glucose. Effects of lipase gene amplification during fermentation were also noted.

Article Abstract:
Microbiological research shows that the enzyme penicillin G acylase of the microorganism Alcaligenes faecalis owes its chemical stability to a disulfide bridge. Comparative experiments using penicillin G acylase from the organism Escherichia coli demonstrates the stability of A. faecalis. Molecular mass determination techniques show that the alpha and beta subunits of penicillin G acylase weigh 23.0 and 62.7 kDa respectively.

Article Abstract:
The deletion of six AT-rich islands from the Bacillus subtilis genome is demonstrated that results in reduced amounts of extracellular LipA. The findings suggest that SkfA protects LipA, directly or indirectly, against proteolytic degradation.
