Development and validation of a nested-PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis method for taxonomic characterization of bifidobacterial communities

Article Abstract:

The optimization and validation of a nested-PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) approach for the species-specific analysis of bifidobacterial communities from any ecosystem are described. Except for the species Bifidobacterium coryneforme and B. indicum, all currently known bifidobacteria originating from various ecosystems can be identified in a highly reproducible manner.

Molecular dissection of a bifidobacterial replicon

Article Abstract:

One of the two Bifidobacterium asteroides strains containing plasmids are selected for analysis of its replication functions and for construction of Escherichia coli-Bifidobacterium shuttle vectors. The results have shown that these shuttle vectors are capable of transforming various bifidobacteria with an efficiency of up to [10.sup.6] tranformants/[micro]g DNA.

Isolation, characterization and identification of bacterial contaminants in semifinal gelatin extracts

Article Abstract:

Bacterial contamination of gelatin extracts from production plants are examined under harsh conditions. In total 73 gelatin batches are examined which originated from six different production plants.
