Development and application of a monoclonal-antibody technique for counting Aureococcus anophagefferens, an alga causing recurrent brown tides in the Mid-Atlantic United States
Article Abstract:
The authors have investigated Aureococcus anophagefferens causing algal blooms in estuaries on the Mid-Atlantic United States. They discuss the improved method developed for immunodetection of A. anophagefferens which includes the application of monoclonal-antibody technique allowing high reactivity with the target species but low cross-reactivity with other bacteria species.

Mutational analysis of the critical bases involved in activation of the areR-regulated sigma (super)54 -dependent promoter in Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on areR gene from Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1 which regulates areCBA gene expression. The authors describe the use of mutational strategy in creating specific mutations within upstream activator site of the areCBA promoter region, and discuss the role of the overlapping inverted repeat sequences.

Homologous npdGI genes in 2,4-dinitrophenol- and 4-nitrophenol-degrading Rhodococcus spp
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on Rhodococcus erythropolis HL PM-1 which grows on toxic polyaromatics sich as 2,4-dinitrophenol as a nitrogen source. The authors suggest that NADPH-dependent F (sub)420 reductases, encoded by npdG, form a new group within F (sub)420 -dependent NADPH reductases.
