Determination of specific growth rate by measurement of specific rate of ribosome synthesis in growing and nongrowing cultures of Acinetobacter calcoaceticus

Article Abstract:

The new method, RT-RiboSyn has measured the specific rate of ribosome synthesis in microbial populations by measuring the generation rate of precursor 16S rRNA relative to that of mature 16S rRNA when precursor 16S rRNA processing is inhibited. The measurement of specific ribosome synthesis by RT-RiboSyn has agreed well with the measurement of specific growth rate with the conventional spectrophotometric method for Acinetobacter calcoaceticus under different growth conditions by using standard culture media.

An efficient fungal RNA-silencing system using the DsRed reporter gene

Article Abstract:

The gene expression in the cephalosporin C producer Acremonium chrysogenum was monitored by using the autofluorescent DsRed gene. The results suggest that the RNA-silencing system could be a powerful genetic tool for strain improvement and genome-wide analysis of biotechnologically important filamentous fungus, Acremonium chrysogenum.

Novel approach to quantitative detection of specific rRNA in a microbial community, using catalytic DNA

Article Abstract:

A new method deoxyriboxyme (DNAzyme) was used to detect quantitatively the 16S rRNA of a specific bacterial species in the microbial community, which possesses the catalytic function to cleave RNA in a sequence specific manner. It indicated that the DNAzyme based approach would be applicable to actual microbial communities.
